Pamela Anderson Is a Dog Saver

Animal lover Pamela Anderson has adopted two new rescue dogs after they were abandoned at animal shelters in Louisiana following the massive oil spill disaster in the Gulf.

The former Baywatch babe has teamed up with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), of which she is an honorary director, to relocate around 50 pooches to Virginia, generously covering the costs for the dogs to be locally adopted, as well as paying for spay-and-neuter and flea treatment.

Many pets were left homeless after owners in the affected regions of Louisiana lost their jobs or moved away from the area - and Anderson is helping to find loving homes for the abandoned dogs.

She says, "Everywhere you go, there are far more dogs than good homes, but the crisis in Louisiana is prompting people to open their hearts and doors to animals in trouble."

PETA campaigners were called into action by officials at the Humane Society of Louisiana, who pleaded for help to evacuate the shelter dogs.

They are working with the Virginia Beach Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) to place the pooches and even bosses at American Airlines and Southwest Airlines have stepped up to help - flying in PETA volunteers from around the U.S. for free to aid the big move.
